The Department of Otolaryngology is home to the University of Miami Ear Institute and Cochlear Implant Center. This premier center for clinical care and research on cochlear implants helps treat a variety of hearing, balance and communication disorders. The Barton G Kids Hear Now Cochlear Implant Family Resource Center is also housed within the UM Ear Institute and was established to create a seamless process that takes into account the social and emotional aspects of children with hearing loss and their families. The Center strives for early identification and comprehensive evaluation of young children with severe to profound hearing loss. A multidisciplinary team, including otology, audiology, speech pathology, psychology and educational services work together to ensure the program’s success.
