The American Cochlear Implant Alliance is celebrating 13 years as a nonprofit organization. A passionate group of CI clinicians, educators, parents, consumer advocates, and the cochlear implant companies were motivated by a common vision to expand access to cochlear implants. Led by Founding Board Co-Chairs John Niparko and Terry Zwolan—a physician and an audiologist—this diverse leadership group envisioned an innovative and dynamic organization to focus intensively on cochlear implants. Read more here: Cochlear Implant Support with ACI Alliance - American Cochlear Implant Alliance This vision has remained the organization’s guiding light. Together we have grown to nearly 3000 members who work to champion research, education, and advocacy for cochlear implants. Members and collaborators are primarily from the United States though we welcome institutions from around the world. Through the ongoing work of the Board of Directors, working committees, membership and the annual clinical research conference, research findings and world class clinical practices are shared to improve CI outcomes and access. These efforts make the organization a vibrant advocacy trailblazer with 200 State Champions, a consumer network, and an active membership that supports what we do at the state and national levels. So much has been accomplished in the time since we were founded. A few notable accomplishments include:
Since its inception 13 years ago, ACI Alliance has relied on membership fees, conference attendance and contributions from industry. ACI Alliance has never provided an end-of-year opportunity for members to contribute a tax-deductible donation to further the work of the organization. It will be important for ACI Alliance to diversify its revenue stream as it continues to be an exemplary nonprofit. While great strides have been made in 13 years, there is much more that could be accomplished with increased funding. As you plan your end-of-year giving, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to American Cochlear Implant Alliance to support the work without raising fees or increasing our dependence upon industry. Together we can continue to make a difference in expanding access to cochlear implants for all we may benefit. We are grateful to our donors for supporting our activities that serve to increase access to cochlear implantation through research, advocacy, and awareness. He was so proud of his granddaughter Kaylee. She was born in June 2022 and was diagnosed with severe to profound hearing loss. She experienced the gift of sound when her cochlear implants were activated in October 2023. Kaylee's Pop-Pop loved spending time with her and making her laugh. Gregory would want his family and friends to donate to a foundation that is working to improve access to cochlear implants, the electronic hearing device that gave his granddaughter the gift of sound. Our father’s life was dramatically changed for the better when his hearing was restored at age 48 with a cochlear implant. Despite the life-changing benefits of this extraordinary hearing technology, it remains underutilized by adults and children in the United States. A national non-profit organization, American Cochlear Implant Alliance, is working to improve access to cochlear implants through research, advocacy, and awareness. The members of this organization are cochlear implant surgeons, audiologists and other clinicians as well as consumer and parent advocates. Thank you to Richard Byrne’s Family for including ACI Alliance in the celebration of his life. Thank you to those who donated: Kevin Bowe Facebook/Birthday Donations:
One of our generous members, Sarah Mowry, created a fundraiser on Facebook in 2018 asking for birthday donations: “For my birthday this year, I'm asking for donations to American Cochlear Implant Alliance Foundation. I've chosen this nonprofit because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope you'll consider contributing as a way to celebrate with me. Every little bit will help me reach my goal.” Drs. Sarah Mowry and Michael Hoa participating in ACI Alliance on the Hill in March 2018
