Dr. Nancy Young named the 2021 Women in Otolaryngology Helen F. Krause MD, Trailblazer Award

Congratulations to Dr. Nancy Young, Section Head of Otology and Neurotology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, who in July was named the 2021 Women in Otolaryngology Helen F. Krause, MD, Trailblazer Award recipient, recognizing her efforts in furthering the interests of women in otolaryngology.
In announcing the award, the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery lauded Dr. Young for working behind the scenes to mentor and advocate for women physicians and recommending them for leadership positions.

 

Dr. Young was on the ACI Alliance Founders Board and served on the ACI Alliance Board of Directirs for 6 years.


Dr. Young has presented on the topic of gender differences in professional advancement and leadership at national conferences and at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In 2011 Dr. Young became the first woman surgeon to serve as course director for the international Symposium on Cochlear Implants in Children. Under her leadership, for the first time, this conference included lectures on gender, leadership and professional advancement. Dr. Young established Lurie Children’s Cochlear Implant Program, which today is one the largest in the world dedicated to children.


The mission of the American Cochlear Implant (ACI) Alliance is to advance access to the gift of hearing provided by cochlear implantation through research, advocacy and awareness.
