The House of Representatives is expected to vote this week on HR 5561, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act (EHDI). EHDI supports the critical Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program and the supporting family focused early intervention programs. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), in 2019 over 98% of infants were screened for hearing loss . Newborn screening provides important information, allowing parents and guardians to make decisions and access medical and early intervention support at a much earlier date than had been the case in the past. Access to early intervention can help children with hearing loss meet age-appropriate language, social, and developmental milestones.
The mission of the American Cochlear Implant (ACI) Alliance is to advance access to the gift of hearing provided by cochlear implantation through research, advocacy and awareness.
