Close to one million adults have received a cochlear implant (CI) world-wide. Each of them was in a place of making an important decision: “Is a cochlear implant the right choice for me?” Whether you, a family member or friend progressively or suddenly lost hearing, or have had hearing loss all your life, the CI decision can be overwhelming. Making an informed choice includes a comprehensive review of information on candidacy and the process (including the follow-up after surgery). It can be an emotional time. Resources that may help with the decision-making might include: a CI surgeon (also called an ear, nose, and throat doctor); audiologists; information from the Internet and printed literature; and shared personal information from adults who have already received a cochlear implant. The materials we have assembled on our website were contributed by all of these sources. We hope you find the information useful in the decision-making process.
