Single Sided Deafness and Cochlear Implantation: Single-Sided Deafness (having a hearing loss in only one ear) can make it hard to understand speech, especially in noisy environments, and difficult to localize sounds. Cochlear implantation for individuals with single-sided deafness (SSD) may provide improvement in speech comprehension in noise as well as improvements in localization ability.
