Listening @ ACI Alliance
Listening is a vehicle for us to share information on cochlear implants and hearing loss with hearing healthcare providers, adult CI recipients (and those exploring CI), parents and family members interested in CI, educators who work with deaf and hard of hearing children, and anyone wanting to learn more about cochlear implants.
ACI Alliance is a not-for-profit organization created with the purpose of eliminating barriers to cochlear implantation by sponsoring research, driving heightened awareness and advocating for improved access to cochlear implants for people of all ages. There is a wealth of information on our
website
.
Our work at ACI Alliance follows our mission encompassing research, advocacy, and awareness. Accordingly, Listening covers all three.
We encourage you to share

details for this free e-newsletter with patients, family members, colleagues or anyone who may be interested.

Tips for Cochlear Implant Recipients to Enjoy Music
The perception of music for cochlear implant recipients is different than for individuals with normal hearing due to how the elements of music are coded through cochlear implant systems. Despite certain limitations, cochlear implants do offer opportunities for enjoying and appreciating music with the new sound from a cochlear implant.

How Much Do Cochlear Implants Cost?
A recent
Forbes.com
article discussed insurance coverage for cochlear implants, noting that they’re “often a covered benefit under
most insurances, including Medicare, making them affordable for more people.” ACI Alliance Board Chair Dr.
Oliver Adunka and ACI Alliance members Drs. Michael Hoa and Laura Jones contributed important information on
the surgery and overall process.

Hearing Health Care Access for Adult Cochlear Implant Candidates and Recipients
Access to cochlear implantation may be negatively influenced by extended travel time to a cochlear implant (CI) center or lower socioeconomic status (SES) for the individual. There is a critical need to understand the influence of these variables on patient appointment attendance for candidacy evaluations, and CI recipients' adherence to post-activation follow-up recommendations that support optimal outcomes.
