Listening @ ACI Alliance
Listening is a vehicle for us to share information on cochlear implants and hearing loss with hearing healthcare providers, adult CI recipients (and those exploring CI), parents and family members interested in CI, educators who work with deaf and hard of hearing children, and anyone wanting to learn more about cochlear implants.
ACI Alliance is a not-for-profit organization created with the purpose of eliminating barriers to cochlear implantation by sponsoring research, driving heightened awareness and advocating for improved access to cochlear implants for people of all ages. There is a wealth of information on our website.
Our work at ACI Alliance follows our mission encompassing research, advocacy, and awareness. Accordingly, Listening covers all three.
We encourage you to share sign-up details for this free e-newsletter with patients, family members, colleagues or anyone who may be interested.

Listen CI Camp is a one-of-a-kind program supporting pediatric cochlear implant (CI) recipients and their families in achieving a life of independence in a world of listening and spoken language (LSL). The camp fosters an inclusive environment where CI recipients and their families learn, connect, and grow together. Through recreational activities, peer mentoring, and educational workshops, participants gain the confidence and skills needed to navigate the CI journey. Held annually in Estes Park, Colorado, the camp welcomes families for four days and three nights of sharing success.

ACI Alliance Calls for Universal cCMV Screening
The American Cochlear Implant (ACI) Alliance is pleased to present our position statement for universal screening for cytomegalovirus (cCMV). As 1 in every 200 US newborns has cCMV and delayed identification precludes timely intervention, the ACI Alliance Board of Directors urged the development and publication of a comprehensive statement to support policy efforts for screening at the state and national levels and highlight the importance of medical intervention. Newborn testing for cCMV enables appropriate diagnosis and intervention by multidisciplinary teams to support newborns and their families.

Transportation Department Publishes Final Rule on Disability Accommodations
The U.S. Department of Transportation issued the final rule to strengthen its regulation implementing the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) as required by the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. While the rule primarily focuses on protecting those who utilizes wheelchairs and scooters, we are pleased that it stressed training for all staff on noticing and accommodating those with hearing and visual loss as well as requiring flexibility. ACI Alliance met with Congressional staff during the creation of the legislation.
