Listening @ ACI Alliance
Listening is a vehicle for us to share information on cochlear implants and hearing loss with hearing healthcare providers, adult CI recipients (and those exploring CI), parents and family members interested in CI, educators who work with deaf and hard of hearing children, and anyone wanting to learn more about cochlear implants.
ACI Alliance is a not-for-profit organization created with the purpose of eliminating barriers to cochlear implantation by sponsoring research, driving heightened awareness and advocating for improved access to cochlear implants for people of all ages. There is a wealth of information on our website.
Our work at ACI Alliance follows our mission encompassing research, advocacy, and awareness. Accordingly, Listening covers all three.
We encourage you to share sign-up details for this free e-newsletter with patients, family members, colleagues or anyone who may be interested.

Musician and CI Recipient Kelly Flodin Shares His Tips for Appreciating Music
My CIs have been life changing for me. They have allowed me to get back to living my life in a hearing world as I've always known it. Getting my friends and family back and being a part of things again has been priceless. Getting music back feels like a big bonus to me. It takes a lot of patience, effort, and perseverance, but it's very rewarding when things finally start falling into place. I am very grateful for the technology, and all the good people that make it happen.

ACI Alliance Joins Organizations Urging Protection of Department of Health and Human Services Programs
ACI Alliance joined more than 450 disability, civil rights, aging, mental health, and patient organizations in sending a letter to Congress expressing concerns about reported plans to reorganize and close significant departments within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We will continue to monitor all of the proposed plans and how they will impact the hearing health community.

Using Machine Learning and Multifaceted Preoperative Measures to Predict Adult Cochlear Implant Outcomes: A Prospective Pilot Study
The results of the study showed that clustering analysis yielded three groups with differences in the reliable change index for sentence recognition, and one group demonstrated low baseline sentence recognition and only small improvements post-CI. The conclusion is that preoperative assessments can prognosticate postoperative performance and identify individuals at risk for poor sentence recognition outcomes, which may help guide counseling and rehabilitation.
